OFF-MUTE 🔈
🗽 New York City is coming back to life.
📖 ✍️ And Inkhouse is starting a new chapter.
🎉 We’re celebrating our new office space and team members in NYC! We’re finally reunited IRL, and it feels so good.
👋 We’re also welcoming our new General Manager, Megan Link! She’s the kind of person who combines strategy with empathy, and the perfect leader to grow our team and presence in the Big 🍎.
💼 Megan comes to Inkhouse from Ogilvy where she most recently served as executive vice president and worked on integrated marketing communications programs for consumer technology companies.
🎙️ We sat down with Megan to get to know her better. Here’s what she said:
What’s unique about the NYC market from a PR or media perspective?
“The access to so many publishing houses makes it the media capital of the U.S. You have people who are just starting their careers all the way up to seasoned and veteran reporters sitting together at every publication you can imagine.
Since the pandemic, the city is coming back to life, and so is the media. There is interest from the media in attending things in-person again. It’s in line with everything that feels so resilient about this city. The energy is contagious and I think it will inspire those of us who are lucky enough to live here to push our boundaries in storytelling.”
What are your major takeaways from working at a big agency?
“At big agencies, people get so firmly seated in the roles they hold that cross-pollination and collaboration is hard even when it’s forced. At Inkhouse there is such a spirit of community — no one is so defined in what they’re doing that they can’t think about what someone else is doing.
Over the last three to four years PR professionals have been challenged to do more with less — by clients. At big agencies where there is so much infrastructure and process, it’s hard to answer that call.”
What are the major opportunities you see for Inkhouse?
“The agility at an agency like Inkhouse is a huge opportunity. It’s matching the PR strategies with the kind of emerging technologies that are coming out of this pandemic. I don’t see how large agencies are going to be able to move with the nimbleness necessary for the invention of the time.”
Do you have any predictions about the consumer tech industry? Any specific categories of tech you’re interested in?
“Coming out of the pandemic we’re seeing invention showing up in all forms and sectors. An example is the QR code, which has been around for 10-15 years, but adoption was so low. Now, it’s everywhere (i.e. restaurant menus). The last 18 months have pushed us into unprecedented levels of innovation and creativity and I believe we’re going to see similar types of what I’m calling empowered technology continue to emerge. Like QR codes, they’ll simplify processes and allow users to have more control over their experiences. I’m especially watching the healthcare, travel and service industries as they continue to evolve in this new world.”
What’s your approach to content strategy?
“I come from an integrated background, so thinking about content and social media is all second nature. A successful strategy matches your content with your company’s goals. That might be getting a Forbes profile or it could be a blog post that appeals to social media influencers. It’s also important to look at the entire spectrum—the PR element shouldn’t always be earned media.”
What’s your favorite social media channel? Why?
“Social media is going through such an interesting time. Especially after we’ve seen how social media has influenced world events and how anyone can have influence—we’re at a critical inflection point. You can find something to validate anything you come up with right now and there’s a community to tell you you’re right. People say they want less and less, yet consume more and more. My favorite is Instagram because I curate it so carefully to see only the things I want to see.”
What brings you joy?
“Professionally, I get a kick out of solving the most difficult client problems. I love figuring out how to get them where they want to go. Personally, I enjoy spending time with my family, laughing with my friends and adventuring with my dogs.”
What’s your go-to emoji? Why?
“My favorite emoji is the heart and it’s also my most used. I’m not shy about telling people that I love them.” ❤️
