OFF-MUTE 🔈
🗓️ This year we were supposed to go back to normal.
🌞 🕶️ For a few short weeks over the summer we thought we did.
😷 But the truth is that most of us are still trying to sludge through and figure out this new new normal. Sometimes life sucks and when it does, it helps to say so.
🤝 In early 2020, our CEO Beth Monaghan and her dear friend Starla made a pact to hold each other accountable to joy for one year. They named it The Joy Project.
⚖️ The more they looked for joy the more they found, and the practice became a counterbalance for the hard stuff.
❤️ And it became a lifeline during the pandemic. Instead of our typical PR advice this week, here is our list of joys that we’re grateful for this year:
☑️ Permission to not be okay. We’re all a bit more real now at work and at home. There is less pressure to pretend that life is wonderful when it’s not. Frustration, helplessness, joy and connection are more than worthy of our tears. Because the world is a mess right now. Crying at work is only human and we fully support it.
☑️ Returning to the world, safely. Our offices are open to those who want to be there and people have the option to work from home as well. We gathered for our first employee offsites, opened a new office for our New York team (to escape tiny apartments and loud roommates), and our CEO Beth Monaghan visited our west coast teams for the first time in nearly two years. Person-to-person experiences are the stuff of relationships and we can’t replace being together.
☑️ Clients who believe in us. We’ve changed almost everything about the ways in which we work and our clients were often the ones cheering for us when we did things like declare random mental health days. They’ve met us at coffee shops, in masks, and on countless hours of Zoom calls.
☑️ Supporting each other when life gets hard. During this year’s listening sessions with our employees we heard that some people feel most like themselves with their co-workers. Others talked about teammates who filled in when they needed to be with their children who have to be home from school so much more during a time when every cough might be Covid. And others who created new training programs to reach a hand back and pull the next people up faster. Are you looking for a better work community? Apply to join our growing team!
