OFF-MUTE ๐
โจ The role of communications is changing and growing influence at the C-level.
๐ Itโs now being recognized as a strategic contributor to a companyโs success, brand and market leadership.
๐ฌ Good communicators are seen as key advisors guiding critical business decisions that help build (and repair) reputation and the bottom line.
๐ฅ But, they are in high demand after consecutive years of geopolitical and economic issues and cultural landmines.
๐ BerlinRosen Holdings recently launched Brightmode Talent, a recruiting agency that helps companies find and place top communications professionals. The team is led by Tammy Phan, who has more than a decade of recruiting experience working with organizations of all sizes and industries. She is also a nominee for PRWeekโs 2024 DE&I Champion of the Year award, and we couldnโt be prouder!
๐ก We asked Tammy about the current hiring climate and the trends driving it. Hereโs what it takes to qualify as a communications leader in this environment:
๐ฑ A mix of backgrounds, skills and experiences is top notch. Many companies had to reduce headcounts or navigate crises this year and need communications pros to help shape the rebound strategies. Brands should hire communicators with diverse backgrounds, experiences, skill sets and some familiarity with everything from earned to digital to crisis management.
๐ฅ An innate ability to adapt (and integrate) quickly. The world is moving fast right now and innovations like AI are reimagining how communicators share stories and interact with audiences. Communications candidates need to demonstrate that they can pivot on a dime, integrate seamlessly with marketing, and use a variety of distribution tactics beyond press releases. They also need to be creative problem solvers that can balance both short- and long-term business objectives.
๐ฏ Cultural competence is a must-have, not a nice-to-have. Communicators must be able to understand audiences and meet them in the moment. This requires a higher level of social consciousness when crafting messages and deciding when itโs appropriate to make a public statement (or not to). This is one of the hardest challenges facing businesses today, and itโs contributing to a growing need for strategic communications in 2024.
