Weekly strategic communications advice to help you drive relevance and impact

October 16, 2024

Asset 1-1

HLTH 2024 is next week in Las Vegas, bringing together leaders, innovators, and journalists to discuss the industry's future.

It’s where major industry announcements happen, like last year when VC firm General Catalyst bought a health system.

It’s also a great place to make connections and tell your story.

Inkhouse’s Leighton Thompson is headed to Vegas. She and our healthcare practice leads spoke with reporters on how to break through the noise:

    • Make AI real: Reporters are fighting through AI fatigue, so prioritize real-world examples with measurable results.
    • Stories and outcomes matter. To break through the noise, brands need a clear narrative and a focus on customer results.
    • Some stories can wait. While the proximity to reporters is tempting, some interviews and stories are better after the event. Use HLTH to connect and start the conversation.

Read our blog for more insights, and watch our Instagram next week to see the conference through Leighton’s eyes!

Asset 2-1
  • TikTok is partnering with the World Health Organization to combat medical disinformation and improve public perception.
  • TikTok is also betting big on search, with updated search ads capitalizing on keywords.
  • LinkedIn is getting rid of Community Top Voice badges due to quality control.
  • While Elon Musk may think otherwise, global X usage is officially declining.

Asset 2-3

An AI policy update from Glen Echo Group, our Orchestra partner (they transform tech and innovation issues into positive policy outcomes):

  • California Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed S.B. 1047, the controversial bill that would have held tech companies liable for harm done by their artificial intelligence models, after intense lobbying from big tech companies, VCs, and some members of Congress.
  • The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) released a memorandum setting rules for how the federal government should acquire AI tools responsibly.
  • More than 100 companies signed the EU Artificial Intelligence Pact, a set of voluntary commitments aligned with the principles of the AI Act before it begins in two years—notably absent: Meta, Anthropic, and Apple.
